The Problem with Doctors
For thousands of years, we have counted on "medicine men" (or women) to help us take care of any illnesses we might experience or prevent the illness in the first place. But not long ago, John D Rockefeller decided that if he could get doctors to prescribe petroleum based "medicines" to all their patients, he could make a butt load of money. That is when the smear campaigns started. He discredited chiropractors, acupuncturists, and holistic health professionals in medical journals and textbooks that he graciously donated to every medical school in the country.
Before, that you could go to a doctor that specialized in "Eastern" medicine, a blanket term I use to describe any medical care that doesn't involve medication as the first step to treatment. Now, the family doctor is a thing of the distant past and you just go to whatever doctor your insurance will cover, and receive what is ironically called THE "standard of care". This boils down to an equation: Illness or disease + prescription = medication (pills). You come in with chronic fatigue and high blood pressure, the doctor puts you on 3 medications for the rest of your life. Instead of curing the underlying issue, doctors can now write a single word, mask your symptoms for a month or 2, and wash their hands of you knowing they made a difference in the world.
Doctors know even less about health and fitness than you do. The part of the 8 years that is medical school and residency that covers nutrition is like 40 minutes. The traditional advice is: take a statin, eat more "heart healthy" grains and less red meat, and take a walk around the block. That is all that doctor's can prescribe, just enough pills, exercise, and shitty food to keep you alive for a few more years (maybe). And then an adjustable bed and morphine to keep you "comfortable" as you lay dying.
As you can see, I have no love for doctors or the "care" they provide. Besides surgeons, doctors that set broken bones, plastic surgeons, and psychologists, most doctors are simply drug dealers with a degree. Here is a list of question to ask your doctor and answers to look out for before you break up with them.
1. Do you recommend a statin? (If answer is yes, get a new doc)
2. How much do you squat? (If the answer is less than 200, get a new doc)
3. How do you feel about LDL? (If the answer is that it's the "bad" cholesterol, get a new doc)
4. My total testosterone is 400, is that "normal"? (If the answer is yes, get a new doc)
5. Are grains "heart healthy"? (If answer is yes, get a new doc)
I highly recommend seeking out a holistic medical professional near you. Yes they exist and yes they will typically try to cure actual illness as opposed to masking the symptoms. They aren't usually covered by insurance, but their prices for check ups and medicines will be comparable or much lower than your usual "Jiffy Lube" doctor at the clinic.
