Why I am so "Dogmatic"
I often get asked: "Why are you steadfast in your teachings, why can't I just eat a 'balanced' diet?" Because in life there is no room for balance, allow me to explain. A balanced diet got you into this mess. Your doctor or the media or other financial interests told you 50% of your diet should be carbs (sugar), 30% protein, and 20% fat (just enough to keep your hormones from getting out of wack). Heart healthy grains! A glass or 2 of red wine (because that's healthier) a day! Your brain can only run on sugar! Ketosis is bad for you! (mixing it up with ketoacidosis)
Well I say, be black and white about your diet, especially in the short term. For now, carbs are poison. For now, animal meat is a superfood! For now, gaining muscle is more important than aerobics.
When I first started off as a trainer, I was focusing on "macros". I would sit people down and give them the exact number of calories they need to eat per day, and the exact grams of protein, fat, and carbohydrate. This approach worked about 2% of the time, because no one actually has time to track everything they eat, weigh everything they eat, and just hope to God they can lose weight on 50% carbohydrate. The "macro" approach, in the the long term, does not work because your motivation is finite and you WILL get tired of it and you will decide that getting a raise at work is more important than counting out 10 almonds for your snack. You will just grab a handful and mindlessly eat them while you hustle,
Then I tried the gentle approach. "Well, I would recommend eating like this because you will lose weight and feel better than you ever have in your life." I would say: "You can still have diet soda and seed oils, as long as you are low carb we are good." This approach worked about 10% of the time. Some folks would take it and run with it, take the "keto flu" in stride and get to their goals. But the vast majority would stop simply because they felt like crap still, the reason being that they were pounding 2-3 diet sodas a day, cooking with vegetable oil, and not sleeping.
To those people I trained in the early days, I'm sorry. Modern day Kyle would get you results you wouldn't believe! I simply chose to stop being Mr. Nice Guy, I let people know exactly what is poisoning them and how to fix it without sugar coating anything. If it comes across as dogmatic, so be it. I know now what the OPTIMAL human diet is, and I will shout it from the rooftops until a million lives have been changed. I can not stand seeing my fellow man in pain and suffering because of modern diets and "hustle culture". It breaks my heart and I decided not too long ago that it was time to get real.
So be dogmatic, tell people you don't eat poison, and then explain to them, in my words, why it is poisonous. I have done the research so you don't have to, I have trained 1000's of people so you don't have to. I have trained the broken, the very old, the very young, and everything in between. 9 times out of 10, the people that get real, tangible, results were dogmatic in their approach to fixing their health.
