What are your animals eating?

If you have a fat dog or cat, I can almost guarantee you are also fat, and you show your love through food. Fat pets are an epidemic that I am seeing more and more of. While it is admittedly funny looking, the underlying health issues that are brewing beneath the surface are worse than you can imagine. All the same things that can happen to humans when they are obese can happen to dogs, cats, rats, and hamsters as well. The diabetes, the achy joints, the heart problems, but especially CHRONIC INFLAMMATION.

I get it, I friggin love my dogs, they get the occasional piece of cheese or egg yolk out of me outside of their "feeding window", but I try to keep them at 1 meal per day. It is how dogs and cats (carnivores) are designed to eat. The animal would "hunt" all day (these days that means playing with string or running around the backyard), then it would make a kill, feast, and call it a day. This is the way your animal is meant to live a healthy life.

If you have a dog, cat, or vermin as a pet, feed him or her once per day, around the same time, and in the same amount. Let them FEAST like their instincts tell them to. I usually add a whole egg and some raw milk to the food as well to increase nutrient density and keep them from losing interest.

When it comes to pet food, always look for "grain free", dogs and cats do not need or want wheat or rice in their diets, just like humans. It will probably have some other form of carb in their like peas or sweet potato for extra energy and to maintain weight. If you have a fat pet, you are not being a good pet owner. If you feed them as outlined above and they are fat, the weight will fall off in a matter of weeks, if you feed them as outlined above and they are not fat, their weight will stabilize and you will have a healthy, happy pet that will live the maximum amount of years that they can (They will also respond to treat training REALLY well).

This diet, along with a decent amount of exercise, sunshine, and training will transform your chonky boy into a ripped boy, and keep him or her around for a very long time.
